BC Interior Forestry Museum

Overview

Description

"Since 1999, the BC Forestry Museum has been the forest discovery centre for the Columbia Valley. Nestled between the Selkirk and Monashee mountain ranges and along the Columbia River, the area is part of an important forest region known for interior rain forest eco-system. Working to record, preserve, restore and display artifacts and collections of historical, archaeological, artistic, educational, and scientific material as it pertains to the forestry industry in the interior of the province of BC, the museum operates as a non-profit society and encourages historical research to stimulate public interest in the history of forestry. Our collection of logging equipment enhances a visual understanding of BC's forestry industry; of loggers and entrepreneurs and mechanical innovation. The discovery centre presents the social and economic realities of the province's settlement through the framework of the forest industry. A threefold drama, between the hardships of logging, the importance of timber harvesting to BC's economy and the necessity of reforestation, forms the substance of the museum experience."
