Miette Hot Springs

Overview

Overview

Miette Hot Springs in Jasper National Park are a gorgeous spot to soak your bones after a hike in the Rocky Mountains. Known as the hottest springs in the Canadian Rockies, the mineral-rich water gushes out of the mountainside at a steamy 129°F (54°C) before being cooled to 104°F (40°C) for a comfortable dip in the pool.

The Basics
The Miette Hot Springs pools are situated on the side of a mountain in the stunning Fiddle Valley outside of Jasper, Alberta. It’s a spot that was once accessible only via a pack trail winding through the wilderness. Today visitors arrive by car, bus, RV, or even chauffeured motorcycle sidecar for a soak in the waters believed to hold healing properties. Some Rocky Mountain bus and motorcycle group tours include a stop at Miette, as well.

Single-entry admission, day passes that allow multiple entries, and seasonal passes are available for purchase at the gate. Family passes offer a discount on the cost of admission.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Miette Hot Springs are lovely for anyone looking to relax in nature.
  • There is an on-site café as well as picnic facilities at the springs.
  • The pool and facilities are fully accessible to wheelchair users.
  • All guests under the age of three must wear swim diapers, which are available for purchase at the front desk.

How to Get There
Miette Hot Springs are located at the end of Miette Road, off Highway 16, 38 miles (61 kilometers) from the town of Jasper. Take the turn marked for the Pocahontas Bungalows.

When to Get There
The hot springs are open every day from mid-June into October; exact dates vary, and opening hours are reduced after the Labor Day long weekend. A quiet hour is observed for the last hour of opening Monday through Thursday. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing, but you will want to stay longer.

The Mineral Water at Miette Hot Springs
The tradition of “taking the waters,” or hydrotherapy, is based in part on the healing properties ascribed to the minerals found in the water. Each spring has a different brew. The waters in Miette have high concentrations of sulfate, calcium, bicarbonate, magnesium, and sodium. There are two hot pools, and two cool pools to provide a refreshing dip for when things get a bit too warm.
