For city dwellers in New York and Philadelphia, there comes a time when you simply need to get out and escape to the hills. When that time comes, whether it’s winter or summer, one the most popular places in the mid-Atlantic is Camelback Mountain Resort. Only two hours from New York and Philadelphia, the resort offers skiing, snowtubing, and snowboarding for about 100 days each winter, as well as heart-racing adventures in summer that are fun for the entire family. At Camelbeach Waterpark, the 37 slides are the most of any waterpark in Pennsylvania, and Aquatopia Waterpark is open year round as the Northeast’s largest indoor pool. You’ll also find ziplining at the mountain adventure center along with bridges weaving through the treetops, or explore the trails through the Pocono Mountains by bicycle, Segway, or on foot. In winter, the 34 trails at the ski resort are the best in Pennsylvania, with all of them lit up for skiing the 800 feet of vertical at night. If you’d prefer to simply play in the snow without strapping skis to your feet, the snow tubing area featured 42 lanes for flying top speed down the mountain, giggling and laughing the whole way down before racing up to do it again. At night, relax in the lodge and mountain accommodations spread out through the popular resort, and refuel at one of the numerous restaurants in prep for another day of fun.
